Episode # 5~Annie Sloan Chalk Paint & Style in Harare, Zimbabwe
Rufaro Govere, the Annie Sloan stockist in Harare, Zimbabwe, began communicating via facebook almost 2 years before this interview. She had just been selected as the Annie Sloan stockist for Zimbabwe and I was personally so very happy. I have strong family ties in Zimbabwe and we have visited this beautiful country on many occasions.
In August Rufaro invited me to visit her shop and to spend some time with her and teach a workshop. I was so excited to share and learn with Rufaro what I had learned here in the states and to learn how they did things there in Zim…short for Zimbabwe.
After an almost 24 hour travel, including layovers ..not kidding with a 6 year old,who was so excited that he only slept 4 hours…yes only 4 hours…we arrived in Harare. The weather was amazing and the country was so beautiful. This was little Edwards first trip to the continent ( Africa) and I was very excited to share this with him.
How fortunate it was that Rufaro runs her business similar to ours here in the states, as a family affair. She and her husband have 3 wonderful children, 2 young ones and a teenager..the younger two fell in love with Eddie and so did he.
My conversation with Rufaro talks about style, running a small business and all the parts of herself that make her a professional nurse, and a shop keeper…yes I said it…a professional nurse…who still practices…wonder women is not the word.
